Find your problem below. If it is not listed, use Send feedback in Media → CICO Media → Overview and choose I found a bug: the technical context it can attach helps us a lot.

The Usage Index is stuck or does not move

The Usage Index runs in the background through the WordPress scheduler (WP-Cron). If it does not run, the progress stays where it is.

Check

  • A site with no visitors (a local site, a staging site behind a password) may not trigger WP-Cron often. Open the front end of your site or the dashboard a few times and wait.
  • Some hosts and local tools cannot call their own address (a “loopback” request). On those sites WP-Cron does not start by itself.
  • If DISABLE_WP_CRON is set to true in wp-config.php, WordPress only runs scheduled tasks when a real server cron calls wp-cron.php.

Fix

  1. Make sure WP-Cron runs: set up a server cron job that requests https://your-site.example/wp-cron.php?doing_wp_cron every 5 minutes, or run wp cron event run --due-now with WP-CLI.
  2. In Media → CICO Media → Usage use the one-time background processing action to process the pending items now. See The Usage Index.
  3. Check that Pause indexing was not selected: the button should offer Pause indexing, not Resume indexing.
  4. In Indexing mode, if you chose Scheduled hours, remember that indexing only runs inside the window. Switch to Automatic — Recommended to test.

On sites with only a few images the index finishes in a short time once the scheduler runs.

An image says “No usage” but it is used

CICO Media only reports what it can resolve with confidence in the supported sources. The image may be:

  • hard-coded in a theme template, a custom widget or a custom field type that is not supported;
  • stored in a page builder element or a third-party widget that saves media in a different way;
  • used in a place that was added or edited a moment ago.

Try Reanalyze this media (in Quick Info or the attachment details). It re-checks that image right away.

An image says “Used” but I removed it from the page

The index updates in the background. Open the image and click Reanalyze this media, or wait for the next update. Drafts and templates can also reference the image: open View all usage to see every place that still uses it.

The cards do not appear in the Media Picker

  • Check Media → CICO Media → Media Library → Where CICO Media appears → Media Picker enhancements is on.
  • The picker must be the native WordPress media window. A builder with its own media manager is not changed.
  • Open the Media Library tab inside the window (the Upload files tab does not show the library).
  • Refresh the editor page after changing the setting.

The grid looks different from other media plugins

CICO Media enhances the native Grid view. If another media plugin replaces the library or adds folders, the two may fight over the same screen. CICO Media scopes its code to its own elements and never takes over another plugin’s toolbar. Try disabling the other plugin to see which one causes the difference, and send us the details with Send feedback.

Pro features are locked

  • CICO Media Pro requires the free CICO Media plugin to be active too.
  • Open Media → CICO Media → License. If the status is Expired or the header shows Activate Pro, see Pro license.

I changed a setting and nothing happened

Press Save settings. Then reload the Media Library with a hard refresh (Ctrl + F5, or Cmd + Shift + R on Mac), because your browser may keep old copies of the scripts.
