Short version
- CICO Media does not track you and does not send usage data.
- The free plugin works without contacting any external service.
- Your media files are never changed or deleted by CICO Media.
What CICO Media stores on your site
In your own WordPress database, CICO Media keeps:
- its settings (the options you choose in Media → CICO Media);
- with Pro, the Usage Index (the list of where your images are used), its cache and its scheduled tasks;
- with Pro, Media Tags and which images have them. Tags use their own non-public taxonomy.
This data stays on your server.
When an external service is contacted
Two features are optional and only run when you use them:
- Licensing for CICO Media Pro (Freemius). If you activate a Pro license, the bundled Freemius SDK connects to Freemius to validate it. It sends your license key, your site URL, the WordPress and PHP versions and the email address you confirm. Nothing is sent unless you start the activation. Freemius terms and privacy policy.
- Send feedback. The form in Media → CICO Media → Overview sends the message and optional attachments you write to the CICO Media developers by email, through your site’s mail system (
wp_mail). It runs only when you press Send. The technical context is optional, visible with Show technical details and can be unchecked before sending.
Deactivate or delete
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| Deactivate CICO Media or Pro | Nothing is removed. Your settings, Media Tags and Usage Index stay. You can reactivate any time. |
| Delete CICO Media (free) | Removes the technical options, cache, scheduled tasks and indexes that belong to it. |
| Delete CICO Media Pro | Removes the technical data that belongs to Pro (the Usage Index and its cache). Media Tags are kept by default. |
| Your media files | Never touched, in any case. |
Delete Media Tags when Pro is uninstalled
If you want a complete cleanup, enable Delete Media Tags when CICO Media Pro is uninstalled in Media → CICO Media → Settings before you delete Pro. It permanently removes the tags and their assignments to images. Leave it off if you may reinstall Pro later.
