About the plugin

Does CICO Media replace the WordPress Media Library?

No. It improves the native Media Library and the native Media Picker. Your media, URLs and workflow stay exactly as WordPress provides them.

Does it change, move, compress or delete my files?

No. CICO Media never modifies media files or attachment URLs. It changes how media is presented and adds read-only details. Nothing in the plugin deletes your images.

Do I need CICO Media Pro?

No. The free plugin works on its own and covers real proportions, dimensions, aspect ratio, file names, Quick Info and the Media Picker. Pro is an optional add-on for Usage Intelligence, Media Tags, Smart Filters and Integrations.

Does it work with page builders?

Yes, wherever the builder uses the native WordPress media window. For image usage, Pro detects Gutenberg, Elementor, WPBakery, ACF, WooCommerce and theme settings.

Does it use folders?

No. With Pro you organize images with Media Tags: files never move, so URLs never change. CICO Media does not touch folders or categories made by other plugins.

Which versions are supported?

WordPress 6.4 or later and PHP 7.4 or later.

Performance

Does it slow down my site?

CICO Media only loads its scripts and styles on the Media Library, the Media Picker and its own screens, not on the front end of your site. It uses native WordPress hooks and data. With Pro, the Usage Index is built in the background and the library reads from the index, so opening the Media Library does not scan your site.

Does it make extra requests when I open the Media Picker?

The picker reuses data WordPress already loads. With the Usage Index ready, it does not need to ask CICO Media for usage details when it opens: those are loaded only when you ask for them, for example by opening View all usage.

Using the plugin

Where are the settings?

Under Media → CICO Media. See The CICO Media screen and the settings reference.

How do I find unused images?

With Pro: open the All usage filter in the CICO Filters bar and choose No usage found. See Usage Intelligence. Always keep a backup before deleting.

Can I trust “No usage” to delete an image?

Use it as a very good starting point, not as a guarantee. CICO Media reports what it can resolve with confidence in the supported sources. An image used by custom code or by an unsupported widget can still show No usage. See Integrations.

Is there a way to see what changed in a new version?

Yes, the changelog is on the plugin page on WordPress.org.

Uninstalling and data

What happens to my data if I deactivate or delete the plugin?

Deactivating keeps your settings and data. Deleting a CICO plugin removes the technical data it created (options, cache, scheduled tasks and the usage index). Your media files are never touched. Media Tags are kept by default when Pro is deleted, unless you enable the delete option before. See Privacy and data.

Does CICO Media track me or send my data anywhere?

No. The free plugin works without contacting any external service and does not track you or send usage data. See Privacy and data for the two optional features that do contact a service.

Languages

Is the plugin translated?

The plugin is ready for translation. Translations are provided by the community through translate.wordpress.org. If your language is missing or incomplete, you are welcome to contribute.
