The missing context

Your WordPress Media Library should tell you more.

WordPress stores the files. But as your library grows, finding the right asset and understanding what it is becomes unnecessarily difficult. CICO adds the missing context directly inside the native Media Library.

The same Media Library with CICO Media: real proportions, file details, usage status and tags on every card.
The native WordPress Media Library: square, cropped thumbnails with no file details.

Organize your media and understand exactly where it's used.

CICO Media Pro includes everything in Free and adds organization, filters and Usage Intelligence.

  1. Organize with smart tags

Organize your WordPress Media Library without rebuilding it around folders.Pro

Use Media Tags, bulk tagging and smart filters to organize your library without moving files or changing WordPress URLs.

    • Media Tags & bulk tagging
    • Smart filters by tag, source and usage
    • Faster media discovery
    • No file moving or URL changes
    • Native WordPress workflow
  2. Understand where media is used

Find where an image is used in WordPress.Pro

CICO Pro goes beyond basic attachment relationships and helps you understand where real media references come from.

    • Used / No usage found
    • Usage count & Where Used
    • Source-aware results
    • Better edit destinations
    • Real usage context
  3. Smart filters

Filter by usage, tag, orientation, size, type and source.Pro

Filter by orientation to see only portrait, landscape or square images, then narrow down by usage, tag, size, type and source. The filter bar works in the library and in the Media Picker, so you find the right image where you choose it.

    • Orientation: portrait, landscape or square
    • Usage, tag, file size, file type and source
    • Also in the Media Picker

Frontend visibilityPro

Used in WordPress doesn't always mean visible.

A media reference can exist without being visible to a visitor. CICO Pro separates the reference from its frontend state.

  • Live

Visible, or realistically reachable on the frontend.

  • Not live

Referenced, but verifiably not currently rendered or active.

  • Unknown

Referenced, but frontend visibility cannot be verified confidently.

Better an honest Unknown than a false answer.

  1. Find the exact context

Understand media usage across WordPress and supported integrations.Pro

CICO Pro helps identify the real source, element, widget or field behind a media reference — across native WordPress content and supported integrations.

    • Exact source attribution
    • Widget, element & field context
    • Better builder awareness
    • Faster edit destinations
    • Native WordPress support included
  2. Built to keep working

Usage Intelligence that keeps up with your WordPress Media Library.Pro

CICO Pro maintains a persistent usage index and updates it in the background, so usage information remains available as your library evolves.

    • Persistent background indexing
    • Incremental updates
    • Adaptive processing
    • Safety skips & retry
    • Diagnostics for larger libraries

Integrations

Works where you build.

No builder required. CICO Media improves the native WordPress Media Library first, then adds deeper context for supported integrations.

  • WordPress / Gutenberg
  • Elementor
  • ACF
  • WooCommerce
  • WPBakery

Integration depth can vary by source and context. Requires WordPress 6.4+ and PHP 7.4+. Tested on PHP 7.4 with WordPress 6.6 and on PHP 8.3 with WordPress 7.1.

A better WordPress Media Library, not another media manager.

CICO improves the Media Library you already use. It does not move files, rename them, delete them automatically or replace WordPress with a proprietary media manager. Your media data stays in your own WordPress database. The plugin only contacts Freemius when you activate a Pro license or opt in to its optional usage sharing.

  • No file moving

  • No automatic deletion

  • No URL changes

  • Native Media Library workflow

  • Scoped admin UI

Usage information is a guide. CICO Media doesn't guarantee that an image is safe to delete.

Frequently asked questions.

Does CICO replace the WordPress Media Library?

No. CICO enhances the native WordPress Media Library and Media Picker rather than introducing a separate media manager.

What is the difference between CICO Media Free and Pro?

Free improves how you see and inspect media in the native WordPress Media Library. Pro adds organization and Usage Intelligence: Media Tags, smart filters, Where Used, frontend visibility, precise source and context, and persistent background indexing. Pro requires the free plugin to be active.

What does Used mean?

Used means CICO found a real reference to the media item. It does not automatically mean the media is visible to a visitor.

What do Live, Not live and Unknown mean?

Live means a normal visitor can realistically see or reach the media. Not live means the reference exists but is verifiably inactive or not rendered. Unknown means the reference exists but CICO cannot verify frontend visibility confidently.

Can CICO delete unused media automatically?

No. CICO is designed to provide better information and context, not to automatically delete files.

Does CICO move or rename media files?

No. It never moves them, renames them or changes their URLs.

Which builders and plugins does CICO support?

CICO works with the native WordPress Media Library without requiring a builder. Pro adds deeper context for supported integrations including WordPress / Gutenberg, Elementor, ACF, WooCommerce and WPBakery. Integration depth can vary by source and context.

Will CICO slow down my site?

CICO Pro uses persistent, incremental and adaptive background indexing, with safety mechanisms that skip and retry items so the work adapts to your server.

Where is my data stored?

Your media data stays in your own WordPress database. Media Tags use a dedicated WordPress taxonomy (cico_media_tag) in the normal term tables. The Pro usage index uses two tables with your site's prefix (…cico_media_usage and …cico_media_usage_objects), plus a few technical options and small per-image caches (orientation, file size). Settings are saved in the cico_media_settings option. The plugin only contacts Freemius when you activate a Pro license or opt in to its optional usage sharing.

What happens to my data if I delete the plugin or my Pro license expires?

Your media files, tags and settings are never deleted without your choice. Technical index data may remain in your database if you only remove Pro. If a Pro license expires, Pro features pause; your tags, settings and usage index stay.

What are the requirements?

WordPress 6.4 or later and PHP 7.4 or later.

How do I activate Pro after purchase?

Download Pro from your Freemius dashboard, install it, then activate your license in WordPress under Media > CICO Media > License.

How many sites does a license cover?

One site (Single Site).
