Real proportions and card information

How CICO Media shows every image in its real proportions with resolution, file size, aspect ratio and file name, and how to change the card size.

real proportions, aspect ratio, portrait landscape square, image dimensions, resolution, file size, filename, card size, grid, media library, square crop

On this page

The native WordPress Media Library crops every thumbnail into a square. A portrait photo and a landscape banner look the same, and you have to open each file to know its size.

CICO Media removes the guesswork.

What each card shows

  • Real proportions. Portrait, landscape and square images are shown as they really are, without the square crop.
  • Resolution. The original pixel dimensions, for example 1920 × 2091.
  • File size. The size of the original file, for example 1.0 MB.
  • Aspect ratio. A simplified ratio such as 16:9, 3:4 or 1:1. For irregular sizes it shows the closest approximation, for example 11:12.
  • File name. Shown under the image, aligned left and cut with an ellipsis when it is too long.
  • Info button. The small i opens the Quick Info drawer.

CICO Media reads this information from the WordPress attachment data. It never changes your files, thumbnails or URLs.

Change what appears

Go to Media → CICO Media → Media Library. You can turn each of these on or off:

  • Image resolution
  • File size
  • Aspect ratio
  • Filename in media cards

Real image proportions is always active: it is the core of the plugin.

Change the card size

Media card size has four options:

Option Result
Auto — WordPress default WordPress decides the size, as usual.
Large cards Larger cards.
Larger cards Even larger cards.
Extra large cards The largest cards.

CICO Media never makes the grid denser than the WordPress default, so cards stay readable.

Where it works

  • The Media Library in Grid view.
  • The Media Picker used for featured images, image blocks and compatible page builders (see The Media Picker).

CICO Media enhances the Grid view. Switch to it with the square icon next to the list icon.
