How to See Image Dimensions and File Size in the WordPress Media Library
The WordPress Media Library shows dimensions and file size only after you open each image. Here is the native way, and how to see them on every card.

On this page
You are choosing an image for a hero section, or hunting for the heavy file that slows a page down. You need two numbers: the dimensions and the file size. In WordPress they are one click away, for one image at a time.
The native way
- Go to Media > Library, in the grid view.
- Click an image. The attachment details window opens.
- Read the file name, file type, file size and dimensions in the right-hand column.
That works for one image. To compare twenty, you open twenty windows.
Why the grid does not help
The grid shows square, cropped thumbnails. A tall portrait photo and a wide panorama look the same size, so you cannot tell by sight which one is which, or which one is heavy. The list view shows the file name and dates, but not the size or the dimensions.
See it on every card with CICO Media
The free CICO Media plugin improves the native library instead of replacing it. On every card you see:
- the image in its real proportions, portrait, landscape or square;
- the dimensions and resolution;
- the file size;
- the file type and file name;
- the aspect ratio, such as 16:9 or 4:3.
Quick Info opens a larger preview with the details, without losing your place in the library. You can also change the size of the cards (Auto, Large, Larger and Extra large) to fit your screen.
The same details in the Media Picker
When you choose a featured image or an image block, the Media Picker shows the same information, so you pick an image of the right size the first time.
In the docs: what each card shows in Real proportions and card information, plus the Quick Info drawer and the Media Picker.
Summary
- WordPress shows dimensions and file size only in the attachment details of each image.
- CICO Media puts them on every card, in the Media Library and in the Media Picker.
- The free plugin never changes your files.
